Sights & Sounds: Sammie Purulak
Common Discourse is a project designed to help others (and ourselves) think through creativity, focus, and intentional work—from Alex Tan & Alice Otieno.
Every Tuesday we share words from a journal, a few ideas, a quote from somebody else, and links worth sharing. On Fridays we invite a guest to share images from their camera roll and a sound that resonates with them.
Sammie Purulak is an independent designer and art director living in New York City. Sammie’s work spans a wide range of mediums and is as consistent as ever when it comes to finding a way to make you stop and take a closer look. His recent self initiated project, Live!, is a 76 page zine featuring screen captures some of his favorite live musical performances sourced from Youtube.
Sammie also has collaborated with us on designs at PDA, hence the birth of this hat.
Here are some things he sent us this week.

Devon [Ojas] played this when I visited his listening room installation at Lisson gallery last week. This 13 minute super atmospheric track played on his speakers really blew me away. Dev explained that the record was influenced by Henry Fords failed plan to build a utopian, American town in the middle of the jungle in Brazil focussing on the production of rubber - named Fordlândia.
Thanks for consuming!
