Common Discourse is a weekly briefing designed to help others (and myself) think through creativity, focus, and intentional work. I send this newsletter out every Monday at 9:17am. To receive future briefings, sign up below.
Ideas from me:
I. Sacrifice
Every decision we make is less a choice to do that very thing and more so a choice to not do everything else.
At some point we might have to give up stuff that isn't necessarily bad for us so that we can choose to spend time on things that push the needle forward for our careers, relationships, and self.
What we spend our time on and make time for is ultimately what matters to us.
II. Curves
The path is never a straight line.
It takes twists, turns, and sometimes spirals out of control.
We continually come back to things we thought we understood and see deeper truths later.
Growth isn't linear, it happens in curves.
Quote from somebody else:
“Winning has a price. And leadership has a price. So I pulled people along when they didn’t want to be pulled. I challenged people when they didn’t want to be challenged. And I earned that right because [other] teammates came after me. They didn’t endure all the things that I endured. Once you joined the team, you lived at a certain standard that I played the game. And I wasn’t going to take anything less.”
