Sights & Sounds: Petah Jay
Common Discourse is a project designed to help others (and ourselves) think through creativity, focus, and intentional work—from Alex Tan & Alice Otieno.
Every Tuesday we share words from a journal, a few ideas, a quote from somebody else, and links worth sharing. On Fridays we invite a guest to share images from their camera roll and a sound that resonates with them.
Petah Jay is an all around Creative based in New York City. Currently, he’s running P.96, building community, and sharing stories that bring us back to the core of our human experience.
We connected back in 2020, via are.na, which eventually turned into several email exchanges. Though on different sides of the world, it’s been a testament to the access we’re afforded in being able to connect with likeminded individuals—irrespective of time and space.
There is never a dull moment with him, as he puts it best “I’m just out here living a joyful life, while fulfilling projects for the benefit of humanity”.
Here’s what he shared with us this week.
Sights —
There's something therapeutic about going through one's camera roll; remembering certain moments that one might've forgotten, rediscovering forgotten ideas, among other nostalgic things. But there's also something challenging about choosing the images to send over, especially with the free will to share anything haha! Though the selections were random, I felt it was necessary to still follow a theme—sights that you can feel.
