Sights & Sounds: Bianca Matisse Taylor
Common Discourse is a project designed to help others (and ourselves) think through creativity, focus, and intentional work—from Alex Tan & Alice Otieno.
Every Tuesday we share words from a few ideas, a quote from somebody else, and links worth sharing. On Fridays we invite a guest to share images from their camera roll and a sound that resonates with them. Words from the journal will come at least twice a month.
Bianca Matisse Taylor freelance model & digital creative based in Los Angeles, California. She has worked with brands such as Ritual, Lisa Says Gah, Aritzia and most recently a campaign with Lululemon.
I bumped into Bianca last year while visiting LA and have been finding a lot comfort in her vlogs, where she often shares reflections on navigating through your 20s. While going through her contribution on Wednesday, I responded to her email and mentioned how I was having similar thoughts on my afternoon walk. Feeling compelled to take photos, while simultaneously trying to stay away from your screen and just be present, was something we shared.
I think that’s what I find so beautiful about this project. Every week I’m reminded that no matter how much time or distance sits between people, we can still find moments of connection in the ebbs and flow of life.

Sights —
I often wonder my intention in taking photos of everything. Sometimes I see things and I have a hard time practicing the self control to go without taking a photo. Currently my favorite things to photograph are spring flowers, my friends and enjoying time alone.
I like to think that one day I’ll look through these photos and appreciate the 55 in a row of a rose bush I passed on one of my daily walks. LA is beautiful, I am new here and find myself taking in the beauty of nature and the cycles/ seasons of life a lot.
Currently I am in love with the feeling of spring, internally I feel my heart growing more open to life’s changes and I feel that I have finally found the value of ‘going with the flow’. I don’t worry about life (things dying, growing, being born) because I simply don’t have to. Life moves constantly-with or without us, the season of spring is a great teacher. — Bianca
