#102 Keep it coming
Common Discourse is a project designed to help others (and ourselves) think through creativity, focus, and intentional work—from Alex Tan & Alice Otieno.
Every Tuesday we share an idea from us, a quote from somebody else, and links worth sharing. On Fridays we invite a guest to share images from their camera roll and a sound that resonates with them.
On the universal degree of difficulty scale, writing and publishing a newsletter twice a week exists somewhere very far off the page to the right. Thanks for the patience as we get back on track.
Alice wrote a longer form journal that we’re sharing next week.

An idea from us
I. “WHAT ARE THE CHANCES?”
Of rolling double 6s on two dice? 2.8%
For everything else we want in life? It depends on who you are.
If you ask the most successful, creatively impactful, and relationally healthy people you know how they got to where they are today, you’ll find that effort and active decision making plays a much larger role than we lead ourselves to believe.
Opportunity feels like a small bullseye on a large target, but it’s much bigger for those who are consistent.
II. TWO THINGS
There is always two things.
The work you are trying to make
The work that you are actually making
Number two doesn’t reveal itself until you’ve forgotten about number one.
III. MOVING FORWARD
Reminding myself to move forward because my future needs me a whole lot more than my past does.
A quote from somebody else
“Every day of your lives is practice in becoming the person you want to be. No instantaneous miracle is suddenly going to occur and make you brave and courageous and true.”
— Audre Lorde
