#094 Done!
Common Discourse is a project designed to help others (and ourselves) think through creativity, focus, and intentional work—from Alex Tan & Alice Otieno.
Every Tuesday we share words from a journal, a few ideas, a quote from somebody else, and links worth sharing. On Fridays we invite a guest to share images from their camera roll and a sound that resonates with them. Words from the Journal come once a month.
I told Alice this morning that we should wait another week to bring back the Weekly Briefing so that we could give an insightful explanation to why we’ve been gone for so long. But the simple truth is, we got busy and now we’re back. We could wait another week or we could put our foot in the ground.
I have to remind myself to take my own advice. And today, that would be something like “done is better than perfect.”
Hope you’re excited to see this back in your inbox on a Tuesday.

A few ideas
I. BRILLIANCE
Many brilliant people are rewarded early in life but get lapped by those with average intelligence later on.
When test scores are off the table, courage will take you further than knowing the right answer.
II. I COULD USE SOME ADVICE
Here’s what happens when we’re brave enough to say, “I could use some advice”
Ego is taken off the table,
You’ve complimented somebody you respect,
And you given somebody an opportunity to empathize with you.
The most underrated move you can make in this life is to ask for help when you need it.
III. WHO ARE YOU?
Everything changes when you realize that you are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.
A quote from somebody else
“There is never any end. There are always new sounds to imagine; new feelings to get at. And always, there is the need to keep purifying these feelings and sounds so that we can really see what we've discovered in its pure state. So that we can see more and more clearly what we are. In that way, we can give to those who listen the essence, the best of what we are. But to do that at each stage, we have to keep on cleaning the mirror.”
— John Coltrane
